A few years ago the sister of one of my co-workers swam across Lake Ontario, which is a pretty big deal. Our department manager had my co-worker get up at one of our team meetings and tell us about it, which was nice, and the guy closed off his talk by saying "it was the most inspiring thing I've ever seen."
That has stuck with me for all this time- he says he was very inspired, but what did he do with that inspiration? Inspiration is a great feeling- that sense of hope & potential that gives you the feeling that maybe you can do something bigger than you had ever considered. That inspiration can come from any number of sources- from something you hear about someone else doing, seeing someone else accomplish something great, even just an idea that pops into your head and makes you think- there are opportunities for inspiration all the time. The key though is to turn those things into action. The feeling of inspiration is nice, but if it's not converted to action, it's of very little value.
Think about in your own life- certainly there have been times when something has happened that was the impetus for change. That was the inspiration for you to make something happen. If you had said to yourself "Wow- that's inspiring........ but I'm not going to do anything about it " then nothing would have changed.
What things are inspiring you today? What have you seen or heard about that stirred something in you? Of course, we can't turn our lives upside down for every inspiring thing we hear, but it's good to be open to making changes for the better by embracing inspiration and turning it into action.
